PPGL PUF Panel

A PPGL PUF panel explained: what Galvalume, AZ70, PPGL and IS 15965 mean, the coating microns to ask for, and what our sheet carries on every panel.

A PPGL PUF panel is one whose steel sheets are pre-painted Galvalume: steel with an aluminium-zinc coating, painted before it is formed into a panel. The line on our specification reads “Galvalume AZ70/PPGL” for the sheet and “Multi Coat · RMP, primer + top 20 µ Total DFT · back 10 µ Total DFT · IS 15965 / ISO 16163” for the coating, on every roof and wall panel as printed on 25 September 2026. Those two lines sit under every price on the live factory price board. On 23 Sep 2026 the 50 mm roof panel with that sheet, 0.5 / 0.3 mm, was ₹ 1,269 per sqm at the 3,000 sqm slab, ex-factory Kathua, GST and freight extra (factory prices on 23 Sep 2026).

PPGL PUF panel: three words, one sheet

Galvalume is steel coated with an alloy of aluminium and zinc. The zinc protects the steel where it is cut or scratched; the aluminium gives the surface its resistance to heat and weather.

AZ70 is the class of that coating: the mass of aluminium-zinc per square metre of sheet, both faces together. The letters say what the coating is; the number says how much.

PPGL is pre-painted Galvalume: the same sheet, run through a paint line before it reaches the panel plant. The paint is the visible surface and the first line of defence; the aluminium-zinc under it is the second.

So “Galvalume AZ70/PPGL” reads: aluminium-zinc coated steel, AZ70 class, pre-painted.

The paint: uni-coat or multi-coat, and how many microns

This is the line that decides how the roof looks in year eight, and the one most often left off a quotation. Uni-coat is the cheaper sheet with the shorter life. Multi-coat means a primer and a top coat over it. The measure is dry film thickness, DFT, in microns, stated for the weather face and for the back.

Ask any supplier the same question — is the sheet uni-coat or multi-coat? — and get the answer in writing, with the microns on the quote.

IS 15965: what the standard covers

IS 15965 is the Indian Standard for pre-painted (colour-coated) steel sheet: it sets out the substrate, the metallic coating, the paint system, the film thickness and the durability requirements the sheet is made and tested to. ISO 16163 is the international standard it corresponds to. A sheet stated to IS 15965 is a sheet whose paint system has a defined make-up and test regime; it is the reference a specification should name.

Where the coating shows on the price

The coating is the same across our range, so it does not separate one panel from another on the price list. What separates them is thickness and sheet gauge.

A thinner coat is a saving a specification can hide; it does not show on delivery day. We state the microns on every panel and do not trim them to win an order.

Writing the sheet into a specification

Four lines, each checkable: substrate and metallic coating class (Galvalume AZ70); paint system (multi-coat, top and back DFT in µ); the standard (IS 15965 / ISO 16163); and the sheet thickness in mm TCT for each face. A coating gauge at the gate checks the microns; a micrometer checks the thickness.

Frequently asked questions

What is the coating thickness on a PUF panel sheet?

Ours is 20 µ total DFT on the weather face (primer plus top coat) and 10 µ on the back, multi-coat, RMP, to IS 15965 / ISO 16163, on every roof and wall panel as of 25 Sep 2026.

Is Galvalume better than GI for a PUF panel?

Galvalume carries an aluminium-zinc coating; GI carries zinc alone. They are different sheets with different standards. Ours is Galvalume AZ70, pre-painted; ask any supplier which they use, and to what class.

What does IS 15965 mean on a panel specification?

It is the Indian Standard for pre-painted steel sheet, covering the coating system and its testing. A sheet stated to it has a defined paint make-up and film thickness.

Does the coating differ between roof and wall panels?

No. The same sheet and coating lines are printed on every roof and wall panel in our range.
