Quick Reference
- Which leaves is the diagnostic question: old leaves yellowing points at nitrogen or magnesium; new leaves point at iron or sulfur.

The cases that aren’t problems
Some yellowing and leaf drop right after transplanting or shipping is a normal adjustment period, not a deficiency. Slow, pale early growth is also normal for chinense and baccatum seedlings, they start slow and catch up.

- Old leaves = mobile nutrients (N, Mg). New leaves = immobile (Fe, S).
- Rule out overwatering before buying supplements.
- Fix pH before chasing individual deficiencies.
- Post-transplant yellowing usually heals itself.
